With the restructuring of academic programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the School of Design is seeking a high-calibre talent with practice-oriented expertise plus extensive teaching experience who will work in a transdisciplinary design environment for various teaching and learning activities addressing interdisciplinary training for students with a view to facilitating them to find the best-fit design disciplines. 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a)    engage in design and delivery of teaching and learning activities at undergraduate and/or above levels in the areas of Innovative Multimedia Entertainment and Media Design; 

(b)    take a proactive role in subject curriculum, pedagogy development and administration; 

(c)    participate actively in programme management;

(d)    engage actively in scholarly and academic activities with significance and relevance to the discipline and profession;

(e)    engage actively in industrial, non-profit and the public sector networking activities with significance and relevance to the discipline and profession and coordinate innovative industrial collaboration projects;

(f)    undertake administrative duties and committee work at departmental and/or university level; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of School or his delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a PhD degree in a relevant design specialism or design related field or an equivalent qualification;

(b)    have at least six years’ relevant post-qualification experience in the design field, design related profession or design related industry with demonstrable contributions to relevant design sector;

(c)    demonstrate potential contributions to curriculum development and course management or equivalent, with preference in teaching innovation, scholarship of teaching and learning, scholarly works or publications and educational research output;

(d)    commit to working collaboratively in teaching teams coupled with a wide perspective on design education;

(e)    have experience in working in professional or educational cross-disciplinary design teams and inter-disciplinary collaborations on design related projects; and

(f)    demonstrate technical capability and skills relevant to design education as well as proficiency to teach these skills.

Candidates with a master’s degree and can demonstrate extensive professional experience and achievements in their design profession will also be considered.

Applicant should submit (a) a letter of application declaring the area(s) of expertise; (b) updated curriculum vitae; (c) a one-page teaching statement elaborating his/her teaching philosophy and contribution for this position and (d) a portfolio of relevant teaching and/or professional work.

Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
